Fundamentals: Elementary/Middle School — PTAs serve as a type of forum where parents, teachers, administrators, and other concerned adults discuss ways to promote quality education, strive to expand the arts, encourage community involvement, and work for a healthy environment and safe neighborhoods.

The Mission & The Overall Purpose of Parent Teacher Association

  • A powerful voice for all children
  • A relevant resource for families and communities
  • A strong advocate for the education and well-being every child

 http://www.pta.org/1162.asp

PTA has been a driving force in:

  • Child labor laws
  • Kindergarten
  • Public health service
  • Hot lunch programs
  • Juvenile justice system
  • Mandatory immunizations
  • Seat belts
  • Bicycle helmets
  • And so much more…

School Enhancement (1994) The Florida PTA believes that local PTAs are service oriented organizations whose first and foremost goal is to be advocates for children. Fundraising activities should be secondary and their proceeds should be used to enhance their school’s educational environment rather than to purchase basic materials and services which should fall under state and local funding.
